Citywide crack sealing started this morning and will run until mid-October (weather permitting). We use crack-sealing to prevent water from getting into the roadway cracks during winter weather, which helps prevent potholes.
Crack sealing is the process where we will have a contractor blow out all of the cracks in the roadway and then apply hot rubberized asphalt in the crack in order to seal the crack. This is not a resurfacing process, but a preservation process to prevent water from getting into the cracks, freezing and causing potholes. This operation will require lane closures, but at no time will the roadway be completely closed. Please be patient as the City’s contractor works to preserve the City’s roads.
